Five Tips to Travel Stress-Free

Let’s not beat around the bush. Travel can be stressful. Extremely stressful, particularly for the person planning it. Here I list my favorite tips for travelling stress-free, so you can relax on your vacation.

Don’t spend too long planning.

It can be easy to spend fifty of more hours planning for a trip. Don’t do this. Understand your destination, what activities you want to do and where you want to stay, then book. Then, leave it alone until a few days before you leave when you call around to confirm all the bookings. This process depends on how long you’ll be there, but you shouldn’t spend more than twenty hours planning your vacation.

Don’t overpack.

For short trips, you can take everything you need in a carry-on. If you’re staying a long time, then you can pack one large suitcase, but make sure you need everything you’re taking. Taking too much stuff just results in stuff being left behind, which adds stress to what is supposed to be a stress-free vacation.

Don’t pack your days.

Vacations are a time to relax, so whatever you do, don’t overschedule yourself. Spend mornings on sightseeing and activities, but keep your afternoons open for relaxing and unwinding. Do what you want but take some time to chill. That way your vacation feels relaxing rather than a nonstop stream of activities you must do because you’ve already booked them.

Understand your itinerary.

While you don’t need to plan every second of your day, you do need to understand what time you need to get to the airport (2 hours early for domestic flights, 3 for international), what time check-in and check-out in your hotel, and when the activities you booked take place. Also, understand your route and transportation between these places, and give yourself plenty of time to get there, that way you can avoid even thinking you might be late.

Take care of business before you leave

If you’re going to another country, exchange your currency before you leave. If you require vaccinations, take care of them before you leave, just make sure you take care of whatever you need to do, before you leave. Vacationing should be time where you leave everything behind and just forget about your stress. This should be a time to reset and enjoy yourself. So, unplug, and enjoy your me time. While some work is unavoidable on vacation, cut down on it as much as possible by taking care of it before you leave.

Remember to check all of the travel requirements for where you are going to enjoy yourself, if you follow all of my tips you can be sure to have an enjoyable vacation.
