Top Five Attractions in Ohio

Ohio is a beautiful state filled with rolling hills and scenic creeks and rivers. Just driving through the scenic routes will give you some stunning photos. The Buckeye State is also filled to the brim with history and culture, and the festivals and events held here attract tourists from all over the world. These are my top five attractions to visit in Ohio.

Cedar Point

Known as the rollercoaster capital of the world, Cedar Point lives up to expectations. From the death-defying Top Thrill Dragster to the classic Millenium Force, or wooden Gemini, Cedar Point has rides and thrills in all shapes and sizes. They’re constantly adding new attractions, and it’s always a good time to visit.

However, if I had to pick one time of the year to visit, it would be during Halloweekends in October. The entire park gets a spooky makeover, and actors are spread throughout the park to scare visitors. In addition, the park holds parades and haunted houses, so I think it’s one of the best places in Ohio to get in that Halloween spirit.

The Wilds

The Wilds is a wildlife preserve run by the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. Situated in Cumberland, Ohio, this preserve is home to many exotic animals such as hyenas, cheetahs, rhinos, giraffes, and so much more! It’s a wildlife safari right in southern Ohio, and it’s the perfect getaway. Get up close and personal with endangered animals with experienced and knowledgeable guides giving you the down-low on The Wilds preservation mission.

I would recommend visiting The Wilds in the spring. This is when you can see the preservation mission in action as several animals are giving birth, and cute baby animals catch everyone’s attention. That being said, The Wilds is open year-round and is great to visit any time of year.

Hocking Hills Canopy Tours

Hocking Hills is southeast of Columbus and has some of the best ziplining in the world. The Canopy Tours can give any other foreign zipline company a run for their money. As you zip through the trees, the guide will explain the local flora and fauna around the park. It’s a great way to get some thrills, and you can learn about the state as you zip from tree to tree.

While you’re there I would also recommend stopping by the Hocking Hills State Park. This is one of the best state parks in Ohio and has some great hiking trails. If hiking isn’t your thing, the park offers a plethora of outdoor activities for you to enjoy.

The best time to visit this attraction is either in the summer or fall. In summer you get the natural green forest and can see a lot of animals and plants. However, in the fall, if you time it with peak season, you can experience whirling through a sea of red, green, gold, and yellow. There’s nothing else truly like it, and I highly recommend it.

Amish Country

The Amish are a group of people who live without modern conveniences, and they make the best baked goods. And furniture. And sandwiches. Any tour of Ohio is incomplete without getting stuck behind a horse and buggy, so take a tour through their communities, and purchase their amazing hand-crafted goods.

Anytime is a good time to visit Amish Country, but if you want to experience everything it has to offer, time your visit with a local event or festival. They hold events all the time, so it shouldn’t be too hard to experience this unique culture and people.

Cleveland

Cleveland is a beautiful metropolitan city located on the shores of Lake Erie. This city has it all, from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame to the theater. This city has something for everyone and is one of the most engaging and vibrant cities in the state. The unique mix of cultures and foods is enjoyable, the attractions top-notch, and the shopping is to die for. Cleveland is a must-see on any tour of Ohio.

You can visit Cleveland anytime except in winter. Winter can be unpredictable as sudden snowstorms from the lake can dump feet of snow in the course of one night. That being said if you don’t mind the possibility of being snowed in, Cleveland is a beautiful city to visit all year.

These are my top five attractions to visit in Ohio. From the thrilling Cedar Point and Hocking Hills to the gorgeous Amish countryside, and even a wild safari, Ohio is not lacking in things to see and do. Each city in Ohio has its perks and attractions, and are all worth their own top five attraction lists. Ohio is a wonderful place to visit, and I would recommend that everyone stops by at least once.
