The market is flooded with different apps you can use while traveling, but here I list my top five. Keep in mind that these apps all have different uses and they aren’t the only travel apps I have on my phone. These are the apps I find myself opening the most often, either to plan a quick getaway or find inspiration for my next trip.
Number 1: Kiwi.com
Kiwi.com is an app that shows flights between your airport, and anywhere in the world. Not a lot of apps have an anywhere button, so I make good use of it here. I use this app to find what’s cheap and where then I use other apps to take a closer look at the flights available and track the cheapest. It’s great for finding inspiration and getting a ballpark idea of how much money flights will cost. You can also modify things like the number of passengers and luggage which can give you a better idea of what you’re getting into.

Number 2: HotelTonight
Hotel Tonight is an app that shows you the best deals on hotels in your search zone. You can book about 100 nights away, so it’s not for planning trips a year ahead of time. This app is great at booking last-minute and has some amazing deals. I would recommend this app for when you find yourself somewhere with no place to stay that night. The more you book with them, the more points you’ll get and the better deals you’ll see. This is my favorite app for last-minute booking.
Number 3: Airbnb
Airbnb also has great last-minute deals, but I like to use it to plan ahead. If I know I’ll be in the area for longer than a week, I try to book with Airbnb, because most of the places it shows me have amenities needed for long-term, such as laundry, a full kitchen, and more. If you’re planning a longer trip, get a good deal with Airbnb.
Number 4: Hopper
Hopper is the app I use when I find a flight I like on Kiwi.com. You can watch flights on Hopper, and it sends you alerts when prices are the best they’ll be before your flight. You can also price freeze if you’re still undecided, so you can keep the best price for seven days while you make up your mind. Booking through the app also nets you carrots, which you can use towards your next flight or hotel.

Number 5: SmartTraveler
SmartTraveler is important for any international US traveler. It’s run by the US Department of State, and it lists veritable libraries of information about every country in the world, from local beliefs and customs to LGBTQ+ attitudes and travel advisories. It’s great for vetting your destination for safety, and for learning about your destination on the way there. You can also register with the STEP traveler program and register with the US Embassy in the country you’re going to, which I recommend for all international travelers.
These are the top five apps I use to travel. Kiwi.com and Airbnb are great for finding inspiration and planning trips, while apps like HotelTonight and Hopper are great for booking. However and wherever you travel, always travel safely with apps like SmartTraveler. What are your favorite travel apps? Comment down below!
